The problems

What actually goes wrong in retail & e-commerce

Recognisable, specific, and drawn from systems we've worked on rather than an industry report.

  • You have outgrown what the platform will let you do

Bundles, subscriptions, B2B pricing or a genuinely custom checkout hit the limits of an off-the-shelf store, and each workaround costs performance and clarity.

  • Inventory is accurate on no channel in particular

Stock lives in a store, a warehouse, a 3PL and several marketplaces. Overselling and unnecessary safety stock are both symptoms of the same missing source of truth.

  • Orders are routed by a person deciding where to ship from

Without routing rules, fulfilment decisions are made ad hoc, split shipments multiply and shipping cost quietly exceeds the margin on the order.

  • Returns cost more than anyone measures

The labour of processing, restocking and refunding is spread across teams and never attributed to the products or channels generating it.

  • Product data is maintained separately for every channel

The same item is described, priced and imaged differently across the site, the marketplaces and the sales sheet, because nothing holds the canonical version.

What we build

Systems we've built for retail & e-commerce

Not a menu, just a description of the shapes of work that come up repeatedly in this vertical.

  • Order orchestration with rules-based fulfilment routing
  • Multi-channel inventory synchronization and allocation
  • Product information management and channel feed generation
  • Headless storefronts and custom checkout experiences
  • Subscriptions, bundles and B2B pricing logic
  • Returns and RMA workflows with cost attribution
  • Point-of-sale and e-commerce integration
  • Margin, cohort and channel profitability analytics
Constraints we design around

The requirements that are easier to build in than bolt on

Compliance, auditability and correctness cost far less when they're part of the architecture from the start. Retrofitting them is where budgets go.

  • Webhooks arrive twice, or not at all

Order handlers are idempotent and replayable. Duplicate charges and lost orders almost always trace back to an integration that trusted delivery guarantees it did not have.

  • Card data stays with the gateway

Tokenization at the processor keeps your PCI scope as small as possible, and nothing we build stores a card number.

  • Peak is a known date

Load testing is against your own historical peak traffic, because the failure that matters happens on the highest-revenue day of the year.

  • Tax is a service, not a table

Nexus and rates change constantly. Tax calculation is delegated to a maintained engine rather than encoded into your database.
